You want to show the world that your pledge to the environment is as
strong as the commitment you are making on your wedding day. Just a little
planning can go a long way to greening your wedding day and keeping your
vow to the planet.
With a focus on local and seasonally inspired menus and our commitment
to sustainable practices, we have a great start to ensuring your celebration
has the smallest carbon footprint possible. Whether you simply want a
seasonal menu or an organic 100 mile menu, Epicuria will provide you with
a delicious meal your guests will talk about for years.
Following are a few simple actions you can take to make your wedding
greener:
- Think about how you can incorporate basic “reduce, reuse and
recycle” principles
into your event.
- Choose an event that is nearby and one that can host the ceremony
and the reception to reduce traveling.
- Consider organic food which does not rely on chemical fertilizers,
a major source of green house emissions. Use local seasonal foods in
your menu. Serve local wines and beer.
- E-mail invitations or use tree-free or recycled paper. Consider setting
up a
website for all of your RSVP’s.
- Consider a favour that is useful, consumable and eco-friendly such
as local honey, wine, flower seeds or organic fair-trade chocolate.
- Use potted plants or organic flowers rather than flowers transported
great distances. Honeymoon locally: rent a cottage, experience an eco
resort or let a spa pamper you.
Epicuria’s commitment to Sustainable Practices:
- Full recycling program for paper, metal, plastics and cooking oil.
- Minimum food waste.
- Use of local suppliers such as Ferme Floralpe, Mariposa Duck Farm,
etc.
- Member of Savour Ottawa.
- We have our own small organic vegetable garden.
Our menus are seasonal and we make everything from scratch, using no
commercially prepared products. We use only recyclable or bio-sensible
packaging and disposable-ware.
